How to build an admissions test study plan you can actually stick to

Work backwards from your test date, diagnose your baseline and spend more time learning from errors.

Check which test actually applies

Admissions testing changes over time and can depend on the course and application year. Use your university's official admissions website to confirm whether a test is required, the provider, registration window and allowed materials.

Start with a diagnostic

Take a representative sample under realistic conditions. Sort each mistake into knowledge gap, reasoning error, time management or careless execution. Your error categories tell you what to study next.

Practise deliberately

Alternate focused untimed exercises with timed practice. After every session, write an explanation for each mistake in your own words and attempt the problem again later without looking at the solution.

Track accuracy by topic and the time each question consumes. Improvement is more meaningful than the number of papers completed.

Taper sensibly

Leave space near the test date for sleep, logistical checks and lighter review. Confirm your booking and identification requirements directly with the test provider.
